BezLive 2016: Nigeria’s best singers throw a party for fans in Lagos (photos)

Let me state this clearly, Bez Idakula is one of the finest musicians/performers we have in Nigeria.

I’m a fan of his music but up until yesterday night, I had never seen him on stage. I came to the conclusion above after about 2 hours of him thrilling a packed house at the 2016 edition of his Bez Live concert at Muri Okunola Park on Saturday, December 24, 2016.
Initially, I did not want to attend this concert. Seeing that it concert’s like this rarely start on time and I wasn’t planning on staying the night. It was Christmas Eve after all. But the organizers kept to time. At about 7 ‘O clock, Last Born of the Gods Sir Dauda took to the stage officially opening the show. His stellar performance was followed by the effervescent Johnny Drille whose mixture of RnB and folk music made the crowd go wild.
Then Falana took the stage. Of all the events I missed this past year; my absence at her Falana Live Series concert pains me the most. But my pain subsided when she came on stage accompanied by her guitarist and instrument of choice, her box drum. She went on to kill it.

The man of the moment Bez took the stage dressed like the true Gbagyi child he is. As expected, fans couldn’t contain their excitement as he played back his various hits. I particularly liked his performance of the song Say. While he and his band were powering through their intro, it happened.
The first of the few technical glitches that will attempt to shut down the show. Whenever the issue was rectified; Bez would try to pick it up from where he stopped but the speakers and other engines had a mind of their own. But since Bez and his bandmates where professionals; they carried on. In fact at some point, Bez was advised by his creative director producer IBK Spaceship boy to live the stage so the issues can be sorted, but he played on. He eventually did live the stage for a 30 minutes break.

When the show resumed, a lot of people were surprised by the appearance of a lady who began singing praise and worship songs for about 5 minutes.

I later found out that she was Bez’s sister. Her impromptu worship session seemed to have worked as the technical glitches stopped after that.

Bez came on stage this time dressed in a way like President Buhari. He was accompanied by another awesome performer Kaline and they both sang a remix of his song More You. Songstress Simi also came on to sing Breathe, a song off his new album Gbagyi child.
He went on to sing a medley of his other hit songs, but when he performed crowd favorite Zuciya Daya, the atmosphere changed. This was helped by the appearances of popular singer Timi Dakolo and super producer Cobhams Asuquo who sang their own versions of the song. Bez also invited a couple of fans to do the same.
Did I mention that his father in law, the ex-governor of Oyo State Rasheed Ladoja and his wife were also in attendance
At this point, the show had morphed into a full blown party and it ended on this note. Kudos to Bez and his team for putting on a good show; Save for a few ‘issues’ here and there, Bez Live 2016 was a success. One thing is sure; I will be attending Bez Live 2017.
