United States to support Nigeria army end terrorism-Envoy
The United States Ambassador to Nigeria Stuart Symington has pledged the support of the new United State government to assist the Nigerian army defeat terrorism in Nigeria and the region.
Ambassador Symington made this known on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Yusuf Buratai at the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja.
He observed the dependence of on Nigeria in capacity of the Army in maintaining the peace and security of the country.
He stated the willingness of the American Government in providing the necessary assistance to ensure Nigeria wins the war against terrorism and bring about sustainability of social and economic development in country and region.
He also commended the effort of the Nigerian military in its intervention in the Gambian Republic that brought about transition to a democratically government.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Buratai lauded the long term cordial relationship between the American Military and the Nigerian Army.
He noted that some elements of United State Special Forces have been assisting with intelligence and equipment for the Nigerian Army in the fight against terrorism in the North East.
He also guaranteed that the Nigerian Army would rely on a relationship of trust with the American government by working together to end terrorism.
Buratai while congratulating the new US Ambassador to Nigeria on his appointment hoped that the dynamism of the new United States administration would bring about an end to global terrorism.
